Director / Owner
Terry is an industry veteran, with having worked in most aspects of the
liquor industry he offers a wealth of hands-on experience and knowledge.
Terry originally hails from Otago; his sales grounding started in 1981
with a job at Wilson Neill and so began his enjoyment for the liquor industry.
In 1986 an opportunity arose to work for Speight's Brewery in
Dunedin Initially employed as a merchandiser, he moved through to sales then was promoted to the role of Sales Manager for the Southland / Central Otago regions, based in Invercargill.
In 1997, Terry, with family in tow, moved to Christchurch to embark on a new challenge with NZ Wines & Spirits as off-premise Sales Manager. After restructuring in 1999, he chose to leave the corporate world behind to set up Hop and Vine Distribution. Hop and Vine have evolved over time and been fine-tuned to what it is today. Terry's speciality over the years has been matching our customers with the best products from our portfolio that will work best for them and their business, combined with never letting them forget how important they are.
Terry considers his work as his dream job and enjoys building strong and mutually successful business relationships with his customers, along with representing award-winning products. When not working its golf (LOTS of golf) or you will find him hanging with his two sons Tim and Nic and enjoying some relaxation time with his wife Carole, and a bottle of fine wine or craft beer.
Account Manager / Canterbury
I'm passionate about good wine, good beer and good people. I studied Graphic Design and advertising at Auckland University of Technology and graduated with a degree but no real interest in the subjects. I hung about the house, annoyed the cat for a while, then decided to become a babysitter in Austria. From day one, I called a small wine region my home and despite knowing no German I soon learned how to order a glass of fresh-faced spatlese.
Back in New Zealand, my love of wine continued as I fell into the wine industry, first in the retail sector - learning about sales, management and what makes New Zealand wine special - before moving to an account management role with Hop and Vine, which I certainly enjoy because my life and job continues to be about good wine, good beer and good people.
Account Manager / Queenstown
I have lived in Queenstown since 1989. A tourism and hospitality professional with an NZIM diploma in management I have worked in senior management roles in Queenstown for some of NZ's leading companies.
Prior to settling in Queenstown, I worked as a ski Instructor and ski guide in Australia, Austria, Canada and France. Between seasons, I worked in hospitality, as a cocktail waitress in some silver service establishments. My love of skiing continues, and I continue to compete at a high level.
Account Manager / Nelson
After working in the restaurant scene for over 10 years in Nelson and Wellington, I fell deeply and madly in love with wine. Pursuing more knowledge I signed up for the WSET course gaining Level 3 with a distinction in tasting - it can be said I really enjoy drinking wine!
In my spare time (after being a Mum of two young boys, working at Hop and Vine and at the local fine wine shop), I also help manage my husband’s restaurant which gives me a great insight on how Nelson restaurants run.

Carole is also from Otago, starting off in a career in retail pharmacy as a Dispensary Technician, that I remained in until Terry's career path moved to Invercargill.
By this time we were proud parents of two boys (Tim and Nic), I landed a part-time job with Croxley Stationary and was able to transfer when we moved to Christchurch in 1997. This role allowed me to develop strong experience in administration, sales, merchandising, telemarketing, and customer relations - skills that were grounding for when in 2001, she took the plunge and tested out working alongside Terry-
I guess it was a success because now 20 years on, I am still working alongside Terry.
Scott is in charge of Inwards and Outwards goods, and anything in between.
Admin / Orders
Tamara has joined the H & V Team in November 2018. Tamara's role is Customer Service.
Dot has come from a background in Accounts for Inland Revenue, she joined Hop and Vine
in 2015 to cover for the bosses, while they were overseas, She loved it so much that she has
stayed on - Dot works on a Tuesday 9am - 330pm.
